According to the introduction to the volume:

Diane Calhoun-French turns to romance literature - that of "Silhouette's Intimate Moments" series - to study heroines. Though the careers followed by the main characters (jockey, charter yacht captain, land developer) are outside of the traditional careers heroines in literature normally engage in, these heroines' lives are never shaped by their experiences on the job. In fact, their jobs seem to be affected primarily because of the heroes' animal magnetism which makes it impossible for the heroines to do their work. The heroines of "Intimate Moments" though purportedly presenting the new woman are in fact recounting old lies. (3)
