This article has attempted to offer one possible explanation for the popularity ofThe Twilight Saga: I have argued that it is both the use of the romance genre, and the construction of the male characters for a specifically, although limited, female gaze that can re-code the incidents of gendered violence, and the violent male body, within the series as potentially both reassuring and desirable, rather than anxiety inducing.
