Mass literature finds a prominent place in the cultural practices of contemporary consumption. In this context, the sentimental novels are the most popular genres of fiction today, moving a billionaire market around the world. This work is part of the history of the practice of reading the sentimental novels, which means, its uses and forms of ownership. Thus, we elected as object of analysis the reading practices of an interpretative community, situated in the city of Fortaleza, in northeastern of Brazil. To this end, we selected as the main point of reflection, readers of different generations and social positions of sentimental novels, who eagerly consume such novels.
