From the introduction to section 1 of the volume:

Natalie Duvall and Matt Duvall, in their chapter "Which Women Want What? The Shifting Demographics and Perspectives of Romance Readers," explore how today's readers identify themselves and how they perceive not only their relationship to the genre but the genre's influence on their lives and the society surrounding them. The authors analyze the descriptive characteristics of readers while coding open-response answers to  look for emergent themes related to Radway's initial findings. They also draw on the sociocultural perspective of literacy as a social practice to understand the contexts and social purposes that impact romance readers' motivations for reading in the genre.
