Translation project: Game Point by Meg Jones

This translation project explores the translation peculiarities of tennis terminology and sports-related vocabulary in the novel Game Point by Meg Jones. The study investigates the lexical, stylistic, and semantic features of sports discourse and analyzes the techniques used to reproduce them in Ukrainian translation. The research particularly focuses on terminology adaptation, borrowing processes and productive word-formation models commonly found in English tennis vocabulary. The paper is divided into two chapters: the first chapter presents the original text alongside its Ukrainian translation, highlighting the translator's approach to preserving the novel's precise appropriate translation. The second chapter provides an in-depth analysis of sports terminology employed by Meg Jones, focusing on its rendering into Ukrainian and word formation models in translation. Special attention is devoted to preserving the dynamic character of sports narration, emotional expressiveness, and the authenticity of professional tennis communication. The research confirms that the successful translation of sports terminology depends on the balance between linguistic accuracy, readability, and cultural adaptation. The translation project emphasizes the importance of sports translation as a separate field of translation studies and demonstrates the complexity of rendering specialized vocabulary in contemporary fiction.
